Sawyer Fredericks Live @ EXT

Listen: Local 518 Sawyer Fredericks "Hide Your Ghost"

Sawyer Fredericks began playing around the area, busking on Saratoga streets, playing the Caffe Lena Open Mic. Then he rocketed to fame with a win on the reality show The Voice. At just 17 years old, you might be quick to dismiss his rapid rise, but if you did, you would certainly miss out. Sawyer writes songs that feel instantly recognizable, and yet fresh and exciting. We loved his major label debut, and have been impressed with his DIY spirit, and the recent departure from said label. On...

The Druids at WEXT

The Irish quartet known as The Druids were in town to play a show with Kevin McKrell. Kevin and Chris Shaw recommended we get the guys in for a visit, and boy did we learn a lot about Irish history and how it continues to be told by the singers and songwriters of today.

Bette Smith at WEXT

Born and raised in Bed-Stuy, Bette Smith grew up with the tough times and her parents gospel music.  As her older brother was on his death bed, he convinced her to make a change - to use her voice for what it was meant to be used for - singing blues, soul and R&B.

Her latest album is "Jetlagger," and she dropped by to sing songs from the album and talk about making music.

On the day many in the Capital Region will celebrate the arts on social media with the #518Day tag, The Egg presents an event featuring the art of songwriting. The annual local music showcase 518 SONGFEST returns on 518 Day to the Swyer Theater at The Egg, May 18 at 7:00pm.

Miss this past week's Local 518 Show? Don't panic! Andy's show is available to listen to here.

Chris Kyle

Chris Kyle, who first came to us as part of Railbird - and more recently LIP TALK, has played with Sean Rowe, and many of the great Local 518s.  Plus, he's toured as part of The Duhks, and likely there is a lot more we are missing in our excitement to share his new single with you.

"Falling in Circles" comes from a forthcoming record called "Air Jacket."  Chris, we cannot wait to hear more! And of course to play this on the radio!

Birds of Chicago

The husband and wife duo of Allison Russell and JT Nero dropped by on their way to Caffe Lena.  They brought the band, and played songs as Birds of Chicago.

We talked about the EP, "American Flowers," and the forthcoming album, "Love in Wartime."

Tyminski On Mountain Stage

Mar 15, 2018

Southern Gothic is the first release by Tyminski, a new modern roots music project led by renowned vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter Dan Tyminski. The sound combines subtle electronic elements with roots instruments to create appropriate atmospherics that match the darker undertones of the lyrics.

One of the best parts of our "jobs" here at the World Cafe is when we discover inspiring new music. Whether it's a singer-songwriter, an indie rock band or an underground rapper, there's so much creativity swirling around in the music ecosystem.
